It’s my privilege to welcome to our school website. Pinderfields Hospital PRU has a proud history serving young people throughout the Wakefield district. Our first provision was opened in 1948, with the creation of the hospital classroom on the old Pinderfields Hospital site which, due to the creation of the NHS, had expanded to provide education spaces that were integrated to ensure long-stay paediatric, spinal, and burns patients did not fall behind in their schooling. The school stayed on the main hospital site for over half a century until it was relocated to a dedicated site at the Wrenthorpe Centre in 2004.
Since then, we have continued to develop to support the needs of children and families in our communities, and we now operate over 8 sites. We still provide education on the hospital site in our dedicated classroom, as well as providing education for those deemed medically unfit to be in school at The Wrenthorpe Centre. We also have a number of our sites which cater for pupils with special educational needs, all of whom have an ECHP and a prime need of either SLCN or SEMH. These are our Early Years Assessment Centre, Forest Wood, The Spinney, The Limes, Woodlands and Thornes. We are immensely proud of the work that we do and I hope you enjoy reading about us, our curriculum, the staff who work at each of our sites and the expertise they bring to ensure that each pupil gets high quality education and pastoral support. As well as providing support for parents and carers with our dedicated parent support team.
Pinderfields Hospital PRU has come a long way since 1948 and we look very different to our original remit, but our mission statement is still the same; we continue to make sure that everyone, no matter what their background is, why they have joined us, at whatever age and how long they stay with us, is important and valued.
