We provide a rich, varied and aspirational curriculum that builds on children’s starting points in their experiences and cultures.
Pinderfields Hospital PRU: Cultural Capital Philosophy:
Everyone has Cultural Capital - knowledge, skills and behaviours - and these accumulate over time through many different experiences and opportunities.
Our settings, through their multi-sensory, immersive experiences, provide opportunities that allow children to explore and build on the
knowledge and experiences that they come to school with, one step at a time.
We provide opportunities for children to:
• Develop a positive, personal identity with the view to valuing their own cultural heritage
• Experience and respond positively to languages, food, music, art, artefacts and cultural practices of different and diverse
communities
• Show an interest in exploring cultural diversity and show positive responses towards different religious, ethnic and socio-economic
groups in the local, national and global communities
• Celebrate, value and show respect for other people’s values and beliefs
Pupil Voice:
Pinderfields Hospital PRU allows for a strong pupil voice: all children can express choices and views through any communicative means
Primary Sites: Pupil Passports
These are in use across all sites and updated each year.
They are designed to ensure that our knowledge and skills curriculum are underpinned by real-life experiences, available to all pupils during their journey through a particular site.
Each passport aims to celebrate and embrace the different backgrounds, heritage, languages and traditions of all of the children as well as supporting their SMSC (Social, Moral, Spiritual and Cultural) development and the wider curriculum experiences.
Visits and experiences are there to enrich subject knowledge and curiosity about the world around them – AT THE CHILD’S LEVEL, ON THEIR JOURNEY!
