Art plays an important role in education at the Wrenthorpe centre and provides the opportunity in year 11 to potentially obtain qualifications in an art gcse and an arts award. However, we see art as being much more than a means to a qualification. Art is seen as therapeutic, expressive, inclusive and social. It gives students a chance to express their feelings and thoughts through their art work should they wish to do so, it has the potential to help them relax and be mindful often through learning art and craft activities, it offers time to engage with each other more while they work and it offers all of the students a chance to feel a sense of accomplishment and success and as a way to help build their self-confidence. There is no right and wrong in art, it is a subject that every student can get right and every student can be themselves and express themselves in their own individual way.
